Advanced Learning for
Pattonville High Achievers
This program encompasses an interdisciplinary
curriculum that encourages independent and self-directed learning
for students K-5.
KONNECT is a kindergarten outreach
program which is designed to identify students for the gifted
program. During the first semester a series of whole class lessons
are taught by gifted specialists with the classroom teacher involved
in observation and follow up. Lessons include critical and creative
problem solving. A calendar of thinking activities for each month
of the school year is provided for families to be engaged in with
their child at home. Based on data from observation whole class
lessons and recommendations from the kindergarten teacher and
parents, screening and testing for possible inclusion in the elementary
gifted program follows. Kindergarten students who meet the criteria
for the Pattonville Gifted Program come to the ALPHA Center for
one half day during the second semester. Problem solving in Mathematics
and Communication Activities form the basis of the curriculum.
